Death Coast of Galacia, Spain
We took a full-day bus tour from Santiago de Compostela out to Finisterre and the Costa da Morte, and honestly, it was such a fun, easy way to see this beautiful part of Galicia. The tour packed in a lot of stops, but it never felt rushed. Each place had something completely different to offer, from cute villages to wild coastline and impressive viewpoints. It was one of those days where you just sit back, look out the window, and keep thinking “wow, this is gorgeous”.
Ponte Maceira
Our first stop was Ponte Maceira, and the morning mist made it look like a movie set. The old stone bridge, the river running underneath and the quiet surroundings gave it a calm, moody feeling. It was such a nice way to ease into the day, just stretching our legs, taking photos and enjoying the atmosphere before the coast started to make an appearance.
Muxía
Our next stop was Muxía and the coastline here is amazing. The huge granite rocks, the powerful waves and the colour of the water were a real standout for us. The sanctuary sitting right on the edge of it all adds something unique. It’s dramatic but peaceful at the same time, and a great way to explore this dramatic coastline as we were able to walk on the rocks to the lighthouse.
Cape Finisterre
Standing at Cape Finisterre feels a little bit special, knowing it’s the end point for so many Camino walkers. The views are big and open, with the Atlantic stretching out forever. It’s windy, wild and beautiful. Watching the pilgrims arrive made the stop feel quite memorable.
Ézaro Waterfall
Ézaro was one of the highlights. The waterfall is powerful and dramatic, and the viewing area really lets you take it all in. The combination of mountains, water and the coastline in the distance is stunning. We loved this stop. It’s the kind of place where you take 20 photos before you even realise you’re doing it.
Hórreo de Carnota
This was a quick stop but honestly so interesting. The hórreo is huge and quite impressive when you’re standing right in front of it. Even if you’re not into architecture or history, it’s one of those things that makes you say, “Wow, I didn’t expect that”. It gave a good glimpse into traditional Galician rural life.
Muros
Muros was a lovely surprise. It’s a small fishing town with a relaxed vibe and pretty streets that are perfect for a wander. We grabbed a coffee, explored the waterfront and soaked up the scenery. It felt very local and unpolished in the best possible way. A great stop for anyone who likes slow travel and real coastal towns.
We absolutely loved this tour and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting Santiago. It was an easy, comfortable day with lots of variety and plenty of time to enjoy each spot. Galicia is full of surprises and this route really shows off some of its best coastal scenery. We ended the day tired but happy, with loads of great photos and even better memories.
